The Ontario Government has confirmed the judgment interest rates for the second quarter of 2026. Both the prejudgment and postjudgment rates hold steady from Q1.

The Ontario Government has confirmed new judgment interest rates effective April 1, 2026, applying to Q2 2026 only (April 1 to June 30, 2026).

For the second quarter of 2026, prejudgment interest is 2.5%, while postjudgment interest is 4.0%.

Compared to Q1 2026, the prejudgment interest rate remains unchanged at 2.5%. The postjudgment interest rate also remains unchanged at 4.0%.

Prejudgment interest compensates a plaintiff for the time between when a loss occurred and when the court gives judgment. Postjudgment interest applies after the court issues judgment and continues until the debtor pays.
