Can I use AI for my case before the Manitoba Labour Board (MBLB)?
Yes. You can use AI to prepare your case before the Manitoba Labour Board. But if you use AI in any way to draft your submissions, you must disclose it. And you must not use AI to create witness statements, affidavits, or other documents you intend to rely on as evidence.
Practice Directive: Use of Artificial Intelligence
- If you use AI in any way when drafting submissions, you must tell the Board and all parties that AI was used in the first paragraph of your submissions, and identify the exact sections, paragraphs, and page numbers where the tool was used.
- You must not use AI to create witness statements, affidavits, or other documents you intend to rely on as evidence. Evidence must be based on a person’s own knowledge and experience.
- You remain accountable for your submissions. AI does not replace human judgment. Review all AI-generated material to make sure it is factual, accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Where you refer to legal authorities, provide full citations with hyperlinks to the source; where a hyperlink is not possible, submit a physical copy. Rely on reputable sources such as Board decisions or CanLII.
- Where submissions show undisclosed use of generative AI, or fabricated or non-existent authorities, the Board may reject all or part of the submissions, dismiss the application, or take any other action it considers appropriate.

Manitoba Court and Tribunal AI Rules Checker
This free tool answers a single question: can I use AI to prepare my case before a particular Manitoba court, tribunal, or board? Choose from 8 Manitoba adjudicative bodies and the checker tells you whether AI is permitted, what the governing practice direction or rule actually says, and whether you are required to declare or disclose that you used it, with a direct link to the source every time. It spans everything from the Court of Appeal for Manitoba and the Court of King’s Bench to the Manitoba Labour Board, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, and many other tribunals and boards. Check out our other free tools below.
The rules vary widely and are moving quickly. A small number of bodies now require you to formally declare or disclose your use of AI, and most still have no AI-specific policy at all. Notably, not one court or tribunal on this list bans AI outright, but every one of them still holds you responsible for what you file. Generative AI can invent fake case citations that look entirely real, and courts in Canada and beyond have already penalized the people who filed them, so verify every authority against a trusted source such as CanLII before you rely on it.
