Calculating litigation deadlines under Ontario’s Rules of Civil Procedure is rarely straightforward.
Until now, most people have done this work manually.
Not anymore. Now you have Courtready’s Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure Deadline Calculator to simplify that process.
How does it work?
The tool guides you through the calculation step by step. First, you choose what you are calculating: a deadline after an event, a deadline before an event, or the number of days between two dates. Next, you enter the relevant dates and the number of days set out in the rule. If service matters, you can indicate whether the document was served and whether special service rules apply.
The calculator then does the rest.
It applies Rule 3.01 (computation of time) and Rule 1.03 (definition of “holiday”). It accounts for weekends and Ontario court holidays. Where applicable, it adjusts deadlines that fall on holidays. It also explains how it reached the result.
Remember: this tool is for reference only. Always double-check the applicable statutes, rules, and court orders, and speak with a lawyer when appropriate.
Why did we build this?
At Courtready, our goal is to make it easier for Canadians to navigate the civil litigation system with confidence. Court processes should be understandable, not intimidating. This deadline calculator is one small piece of our larger effort.
