Ontario Bankruptcy Courthouse Map
This map shows which of Ontario’s five bankruptcy courthouses you file at, based on where you live. Bankruptcy and insolvency matters under the federal Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act are filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, organized by Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB) division. Enter any Ontario address and the tool returns the correct courthouse, its location, and the area it serves.
Not every Superior Court of Justice location handles bankruptcy. Filings across the province resolve to just five courthouses: Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, and Sudbury. Filing at a location that does not accept bankruptcy matters can delay your case, which is why matching your address to the right courthouse matters. Most documents can also be filed without attending in person through Ontario’s Bankruptcy Submissions Online service, which begins by asking which courthouse you are filing at. The five courthouses and the areas each serves are below:
| Courthouse | OSB Division | Areas covered |
|---|---|---|
| Toronto | Div. 31 & 32 | City of Toronto, York, Durham, Simcoe, Muskoka, Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes (Victoria), Northumberland, Peterborough; Halton, Peel |
| Sudbury | Div. 31 & 21 | Greater Sudbury, Sudbury District, Algoma, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Timiskaming, Cochrane; plus Thunder Bay, Kenora, Rainy River (Division 21, as of May 1, 2026) |
| Hamilton | Div. 32 | Hamilton, Niagara, Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk |
| Ottawa | Div. 33 | City of Ottawa, Frontenac, Lanark, Renfrew, Lennox & Addington, Hastings, Prince Edward, Prescott & Russell, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, Leeds & Grenville |
| London | Div. 35 | Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Perth, Huron, Bruce, Grey, Dufferin, Wellington, Waterloo, Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Essex |

Common Questions
Where do I start bankruptcy proceedings in Ontario?
Bankruptcy and insolvency matters in Ontario are filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at one of five courthouses: Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, or Sudbury. The right courthouse depends on the county or district where you live. Enter your address in the map above to find the one that serves you, along with its location and the areas it covers.
Does every Ontario courthouse handle bankruptcy?
No. The Superior Court of Justice has many locations across Ontario, but only five accept bankruptcy and insolvency filings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. Filing at a courthouse that does not handle bankruptcy can delay or misdirect your matter, so this tool matches your address to the correct one.
Where do I file business or corporate bankruptcy in Ontario?
Corporate and business insolvency filings follow the same geography as personal ones. The matter is filed at the bankruptcy courthouse that serves the relevant location. For example, a business in Markham files at the Toronto courthouse, because York Region falls under Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Division 31.
Do I have to attend the courthouse in person?
Often not. Most bankruptcy documents can be filed without attending in person, through Ontario's Bankruptcy Submissions Online service. The online form begins by asking which courthouse you are filing at, which is exactly what this tool tells you. Some matters may still require attendance, so confirm the requirements for your filing.
I live in Thunder Bay or Kenora. Where do I file now?
As of May 1, 2026, bankruptcy matters for Division 21, which covers Thunder Bay, Kenora, and Rainy River, are filed at the Sudbury courthouse, following direction from the Superior Court of Justice. Previously these were filed locally in Thunder Bay or Kenora. Enter your address in the map above to confirm.
What is an OSB division?
The Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy organizes Canada into bankruptcy districts and divisions. Ontario's divisions, numbered 21, 31, 32, 33, and 35, determine which Superior Court of Justice courthouse handles bankruptcy filings for each county or district. This map links your address to its division and the courthouse that serves it.
