The Ontario Government has confirmed new judgment interest rates effective April 1, 2026, applying to Q2 2026 only (April 1 to June 30, 2026).
For the second quarter of 2026, prejudgment interest is 2.5%, while postjudgment interest is 4.0%.
Compared to Q1 2026, the prejudgment interest rate remains unchanged at 2.5%. The postjudgment interest rate also remains unchanged at 4.0%.
Prejudgment interest compensates a plaintiff for the time between when a loss occurred and when the court gives judgment. Postjudgment interest applies after the court issues judgment and continues until the debtor pays.
